Recap of NITA’s 1st Virtual Get-together

It was a shiny morning in Las Vegas! The virtual gathering was about to start and little by little colleagues and friends began to drop in. NITA's 1st virtual get-together had 15 to 20 attendees. This is more attendance than we have ever had, largely due also to several colleagues from Reno who joined us for the first time. It certainly was nice to put a face to the names and voices after years.

Besides short intros to get to know more about each other, there was discussion about the challenges Nevada interpreters are still facing, in particular whether the Court Interpreter Program Coordinator will be replaced. Court interpreters surely need need someone who will be there to process certifications and renewals, as well as orientation workshops and credentialing exams.

Some ideas on training courses were raised by several attendees. One topic of discussion--particular to professional development--was the possibility to resume live streaming of all events in Reno and Las Vegas so that everyone in the state can participate. It will be easier now, since NITA has been using Zoom, it will lend itself to allow participation from other locations. The consensus is that even after the pandemic we continue to find ways to live-stream or zoom the seminars and get-togethers.

We can't wait to have another gathering with like-minded professionals! Stay tuned!
